About myself

I studied psychology, and conducted academic research in the field of visual perception (University of Leuven). How the senses receive an image, how a percept is built, and how people interprete an image was the focus of my research. My academic work leans towards the visual arts. My interest in human perception drives my experimental quest in my painting for an impression of the world around me in color, light and movement. My style balances between figurative and expressionist, with a contemporary interpretation of colour and form.

I draw inspiration from my experience and impressions in cinema, photography and imagination. I try to enhance the sense of proximity, light and magical atmosphere on canvas. I use intense colours and expressive lines to capture a contemporary atmosphere of movement and impermanence. Style, medium and form are determined by what I want to express and by the load of the materials. For me, art is always evolving and discovering, an eternal quest in which I maintain a temporary and project-based connection to a theme.

I take classes at the municipal art academy of Leuven (SLAC) and besides my own studio I also work in the open studio of the Creaxe in Herent. My work is characterized by dynamic paint streaks, atypical viewpoints, intense light and color.
